How the Barge Mechanism Works

Capture hood, onboard filtration, clean-release stack — and a simulation you can control.

The Mechanism

A capture hood seals over the vessel's exhaust stack while it's docked. Exhaust is drawn into an onboard filtration and scrubber module on the barge, which strips out nitrogen oxides (NOx), sulphur oxides (SOx), and particulate matter before releasing treated air through a clean-release stack — all without interrupting the vessel's normal operations at berth, and without requiring the vessel to be retrofitted with shore-power connections or its own onboard scrubbers.

1. Capture Hood

A hood is positioned over the vessel's existing exhaust stack, sealing the exhaust path so nothing escapes into the open air above the berth.

2. Filtration & Scrubbing

Captured exhaust is routed into the barge's onboard treatment module, where particulate matter, NOx, and SOx are removed from the gas stream.

3. Clean Release

Treated air is vented through the barge's own clean-release stack. What leaves the barge is a fraction of what entered it.
